LONDON, November 04, 2008 - Red Bull Air Race GmbH has appointed IMG Sports Media to act as the exclusive sales agent for the international TV rights to the 2009 Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
After incredible success this year in cities such as London, San Diego, Budapest and Perth, Australia, the global 8-race championship will touch down in multiple different locations around the world in 2009.
Since 2006, IMG Sports Media, on behalf of Red Bull Air Race GmbH, has successfully negotiated licence agreements with some of the most-watched TV stations, including: RTL in Germany, Fuji TV in Japan, Viasat in Scandinavia, RAI in Italy, TVE in Spain and Fox Sports in Latin America as well as AXN in Asia.
Last year IMG furthered the sport’s reach by 250 million households through a broadcast deal with CCTV-5, the only national sports channel covering all of China, and Eurosport Asia for coverage of the 2007 Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
Ioris Francini, SVP IMG Media Sales, EMEA said: “We are thrilled to be reappointed by The Red Bull Air Race; this spectacular aerial championship race is truly remarkable and the only one of it’s kind. Since working with Red Bull Air Race GmbH we have witnessed an ever growing appetite for the sport, which can now be seen in over 625 million households worldwide across more than 70 television stations. We look forward to helping expand the competition’s global reach and popularity as well as maintaining the great relationships we have with existing broadcast partners”.
Kim Bernhard, Red Bull Air Race Head of TV and New Media, said: "We look forward to continuing with IMG and building on the momentum of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship and taking it to the next level. This however doesn't mean that we will rest on our laurels, but still take a very active role in the distribution and selling of the World Championship together with IMG”.
