BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Synopsis
The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) is a selection system designed to give the top two teams in the NCAA FBS Bowl Subdivision System an opportunity to compete in a national championship game. This championship is intended as a surrogate for a playoff system since the NCAA does not formally determine a champion in this category. The BCS was established before the 1998 season to determine the national champion for American college football, while maintaining and enhancing the bowl system that's nearly 100 years old.
The BCS National Championship Game will be played on January 8, 2009 in Miami, bringing the best two teams head to head in a showdown for the season's crown.
