DUBAI MARATHON
Synopsis
The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon is an annual race held in January each year. The race is the world's richest long distance running event, with one million dollars offered to those who break the world record. Significant prize money also attracts many of the best athletes on one of the fastest courses in the world.
The 2009 race was won by Ethiopian world record holder, Haile Gebrselassie in a time of 2:05:29, making it the second fastest marathon of all time.
The Marathon will start and finish at the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina. Starting opposite the hotel, in front of Dubai Media City, running along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road, turning at Union House beside the big flag and returning along the same route finishing outside the hotel.
