33RD AMERICA'S CUP

Synopsis

The America’s Cup is the most prestigious regatta and match race in the world of sailing. Founded in 1851 it is the oldest sporting trophy.

On the 3rd July 2007 the champagne was flowing, the Valencia skyline was alight with fireworks and closing ceremony for the 32nd America’s Cup was drawing to an end. Alinghi had successfully defended the trophy.  Before the dust could settle, BMW Oracle launched a challenge against Cup winners Alinghi, which has left both teams locked in a constant courtroom battle for two years.

Like all exciting dramas under the Deed of Gift, a duel will take place to settle such disputes. Defenders Alinghi will take on the challengers, BMW Oracle, for a spectacular duel on the water to decide the winner of the 33rd Americas Cup.

Once the duel is complete, planning for the 34th America’s Cup will start, which will be open to all Americas Cup syndicates.
