MAJOR LEAGUE GAMING
Synopsis
Gaming is a global phenomenon. It is now the number one activity amongst the 18-24 male demographic and in 2009 worldwide video game sales exceeded $50 billion. IMG are proud to partner with the market leader in the competitive gaming industry to elevate this sport to a new level.
Major League Gaming was founded in 2002 and currently stands as the world’s largest video gaming league. MLG has over 4 million users with 1.2m players competing regularly online with a peak of 950,000 matches played per month. Competitors from 28 different countries participate in the offline tournaments that take place in North America several times a year.
MLG is emerging as the organization that will set the standards for international competition. In the same way that FIFA is central to everything that happens in football, MLG is leading the way in organising casual game play into a set of clear rules and regulations for gamers.
Online competition takes place all year long on GameBattles, the MLG platform. It offers ladders and tournaments for all 27 games throughout the year. For on-ground events, they hold the Pro Circuit, which are three day tournaments held six times throughout the year. The MLG live events, contained within their Pro-Circuit, are the crown jewels of the worldwide gaming calendar. Winning one of these events not only delivers prestige but also significant prize money ($1 million this season). Performing well here opens up both the world of sponsorship and the opportunity to turn professional.
This weekly gaming magazine show will feature all the best action, news and gaming content from Major League Gaming. The MLG show will highlight the very latest from the world of competitive gaming, profiling the world’s leading gamers and gaming teams from every territory. Rumours from inside the gaming world will also be featured in the show alongside developments from leading games publishers and hardware companies. All the best plays and competitions from the past week from GameBattles will feature alongside tips and tricks from the world’s best gamers.
While there are of course local variations in the nature and type of games played, there are gamers everywhere and the underlying appeal of competitive gaming is universal. As the games are played online, there is a strong international community already in place.
