When Slim Aarons was asked to shoot photographs during the Korean War, he responded, “I’ll only do a beach if it has a blonde on it.” Surely this was in response to his years photographing World War II where an injury on Italian soil led to a Purple Heart.
Slim spent the next 50 years of his life working for Life, Holiday and Town & Country magazines taking pictures of attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places. One of his editors called it environmental photography. When his career was finished, Slim had done something far more important than take pictures. He had made an album of a segment of world history over the last half of the twentieth century.
