Synopsis

The Rugby Football League (RFL) is the governing body for rugby league in the United Kingdom. It administers the England National Rugby League Team, The Challenge Cup, The Rugby League National Leagues and The Super League (Europe).

The RFL Archive collection includes footage from The Super League, The World Club Challenge, The Four Nations (previously known as the Tri Nations) and The Challenge Cup.

Established in 1996 The Super League is the top-level professional rugby league club competition in Europe. The league features fourteen teams; twelve from England, one from Wales and one from France, whom compete annually from February to October.

Tri Nations/Four Nations

The rugby league Four Nations series (previously the Tri Nations) is a round-robin competition involving Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand, and since 2009, an alternating fourth team.

World Club Challenge

The World Club Challenge (previously the World Club Championship) is an annual match held between the Champions of the Australasian National Rugby League (NRL) and The Super League to determine the world's best rugby league club. The first match of its kind was played in 1976 but it did not become a regular part of the world rugby league calendar until the late 1980s.

Challenge Cup

Dating back to 1896 The Challenge Cup was originally contested by British teams, but in recent years French and Russian teams have entered the competition. It is a knock out cup and the Final is one of the most prestigious matches held by the Rugby Football League.
